Map of Day 2, from Kwasitchewan Falls to Pisew Falls

Day 2 of the Kwasitchewan falls trip started bright and early, we had plans to meet on of your friends who lives in Paint Lake Provincial Park. The morning dawned a bit cool, but rainless and we packed up the tents and ate breakfast in our camp shoes. As it became time to leave, we all put on a dry pair of socks, filled with trepidation at what was to come. Slipping our feet into our boots, we each had about 5 seconds until our socks were completely soaked again. At least today the boots were just wet and not sloshy.

The hike back was pretty enjoyable. There is a great view out over Phillips lake, and a couple of islands worth looking at. The actual trail was easy to follow, without too much close in growth so we stayed dry pretty easily and enjoyed the rolling ups and downs of it.

A few hours later we arrived at the turn to the bridge to go to the parking lot, but decided to get a close up of Pisew falls from this side instead and headed down the spur trail. The trail takes you to the top of Pisew falls so that you can look down it, and you can see the boardwalk across the river. However, there's also a side trail that involves climbing down a 15 foot drop so that you can get out to the little peninsula right in front of the falls. Without any hesitation we headed down and got a nice close up of the falls while standing in the spray.

The weekend was pretty awesome and definitely worth the drive north!

In Roslyn's words:

Day 2 on our northern Manitoba adventure was much nicer than the first. With sunny skies, we said goodbye to Manitoba’s largest waterfall, quite a feeling first thing in the morning, and started our trek back. The trail out was much like the trail in except we actually were able to appreciate it without being all grumpy and wet. Well mostly, our boots were still soaked, but our spirits were high. The only good place to stop for lunch on the way back is the portage trail at the start of the loop. It is a nice wide trail with room to spread you stuff out and relax a bit. When you get back to Pisew falls, there are some side trails before the bridge that will lead you to the far side of the falls and down near the base. It is really beautiful and definitely worth the extra walk. Be sure to be careful down there as everything is wet from the mist, the rocks can be slippery, and the waters are treacherous. I absolutely recommend the trip up to Pisew Provincial park to see one of Manitoba's marvels.
